Raining Threes
by Bob Dignazio
Ricky Davis was purely sensational on Friday night in Washington. Get Buckets knocked down an eye-popping nine treys on his way to a 33-point performance. In addition to leading both teams in scoring, 31 also dished out eight assists in the shootout at the Verizon Center.
Despite Ricky’s career night, Washington won their second consecutive game, 109-95.
A NIGHT TO REMEMBER
Ricky’s six second-half three-pointers tied the Heat franchise record held by Dan Majerle, Rex Chapman, Brian Shaw, and Tim Hardaway for most in any half.
No. 31 set career highs in both three-point conversions and three-point attempts.
Ricky was just one trey shy of the franchise single-game record.
With Heat teammate Chris Quinn converting five of his eight three-point attempts, Friday marked the eighth time in franchise history that two players hit five or more three-pointers.
DETROIT BLUES
On Sunday, Ricky scored 11 points and led the contest with nine rebounds. However, the Heat lost to the Pistons, 91-75.
Detroit led 39-27 at halftime, but Ricky and the Heat rallied in the second half. As The Sports Network detailed:
“The Heat showed a little fight for the remainder of the third, hitting four three-pointers and cutting the lead to 68-54 with 12 minutes left.”
“Davis drilled a three-pointer to beat the shot clock with a little over eight minutes remaining (in regulation) to cut the deficit to 70-61. Detroit immediately responded with a 10-0 run to put the game out of reach, and Miami never challenged again.”
